Traditional
With a traditional health care policy, the insurance company pays fees for the services provided to the insured people covered by the policy. Basic protection pays toward the costs of a hospital room and care while you are in the hospital. Major medical insurance takes over where your basic coverage leaves off, covering other costs.
- You can choose any doctor you wish, change doctors any time, and go to any hospital in any part of the country
- You are responsible for a monthly premium, a deductible, and a percentage of the bill, after the deductible is covered
- To receive payment for claims, you may have to fill out forms and send them to your insurer
- You need to keep receipts for drugs and other medical costs. You are responsible for keeping track of your medical expenses
- Some services are limited or not covered at all
